20th Annual Map of the Year Awards

Once again this year the traditional awards ceremony has been held under the patronage of the Czech Cartographic Society, announcing the best atlases and maps published in 2017. This year's prize-giving marked an important anniversary - 500 years since the publication of the Klaudyan map, the very first map of Bohemia published in print. 

A total of 73 publishing achievements from 23 publishers competed for the prestigious Map of the Year title, with 13 being shortlisted for the prize. The following special-purpose publications came out victorious:

  • Atlases, Sets and Map Editions category - main prize was awarded to the Historical Atlas of the Population of the Land of Bohemia, brought out by the Charles University.

  • Independent Work of Cartography category - the jury's vote went in favour of The Garden of Europe, 1:25 000 scale, published by Geodézie On Line, spol. s r.o.

  • Student Work of Cartography category - the prize was awarded to the Olomouc Statistical Atlas in the infographic design by Martin Porteš from the Palacký University Olomouc.

  • A special award was presented to the map of Banat in the scale of 1:100 000, published by Trasa, spol. s r.o.
